Nothando and I have been social media friends for a while now and I have always admired her work from a distance. So when we finally bumped into each other earlier this year, I suggested that we meet to talk about  business, parenting, nannies and everything in between.

Tell us us more about your business, Nothando Tembe Communications

Nothando Tembe Communications is a creative agency that focuses on brand development, branding & digital marketing.  We have customized services for small businesses, as we are passionate with working with new brands.

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve always had something within me that told me I will never be okay with working for someone, that I needed to be my own boss. So as soon I decided on my PR career, I decided I will one day own an agency. But I think the one thing that inspired me, was the desire to help other business owners think outside the box in building their brands.

How did you know that it was time to convert your side hustle to a full time business?

The birth of my son was actually a really big motivation. I was really frustrated at my job and was considering resigning for quite some time. I knew at the end of my maternity leave that it was time for me to send that resignation letter.

Have you always known that you would run your own business?

Yes I made the decision when I started my PR Diploma.

What is the most important lesson that you’ve learnt during your entrepreneurship journey?

To never settle! I think it’s so important for you to know who you are, what you want and where you want to take your business. I remember when I started out, I was everywhere, trying to make everything work, knocking on all doors. That really exhausted me and nothing seemed to work. I revaluated my plan & my business as a whole, that’s when things started working out for me.

Why do you think that it’s important for businesses to be active on social media?

The internet and social media are both extremely powerful tools for brands. For small businesses, social media can be a great place to start, it’s cheap and can be the fastest way to grow their brands if they do things the right way.

Tell us more about your blog?

I started my blog to share insights and tips for anyone who wants to gain knowledge about the digital world, but more especially for fellow bloggers & business owners. The platform also shares my journey, challenges & lessons as I navigate my own business.

What is the recipe for a successful blog?

A plan needs to be in place & you need to be consistent in creating content!

What keeps you motivated?

Top 2 – my son & the thrill in realizing my dreams.

Tell us more about your family?

I come from a small and close family, with great parents that have taught me a lot about love and sacrifice. I’m currently in the process of building my own little family & all I can say it I’m blessed with a partner that supports everything I do.

How do you balance work and family life?

This is a tough thing to do, but I try to be disciplined in doing working during work hours & make sure I keep weekends for family time. Running your own business does take a lot of your time so things can get overwhelming at times.

What are the three most important values that you want to instill in your children?

Love, forgiveness and honesty.

What are the future plans for your business?

I really want the brand to grow beyond servicing clients, I would like to host events that connect fellow creatives & business owners. I would also like to host workshops that teach and share knowledge to anyone who would like to know more about the digital world.

Love B
