I started blogging because I wanted to make a living by just being myself. I am extremely grateful that I have been able to manifest my dreams. At the same time, it is important for me to show other women how to do that as well, especially moms who want to work from home or simply want to earn an additional income. It’s important for me to help others to tap into what really makes them happy and essentially how to make a living off that. It’s all about figuring out how to be yourself and becoming comfortable in your own skin. I’m thrilled to be able to share my journey with you.
Just get started
I started blogging a year ago, after many years of procrastination. I was allowing fear to take charge of my life whilst I was sitting in the back seat. Stop waiting for the perfect moment, start with what you have. The perfect moment won’t miraculously present itself to you. No more excuses about not having enough time, if you are truly passionate about something you will make time for it. Remain loyal to your dreams and everything will eventually fall into place.
Decide on your niche
Who is your audience and how do plan to add value to their lives? Are you going to be showing them beautiful destinations around the world or teaching them how to prepare gluten free meals? Whatever it is that you choose to blog about, make sure that you are passionate about it otherwise your message will not be authentic and your audience will lose interest. Remember, the objective is to serve your audience. Whenever you upload new content ask yourself, “How am I adding value to my audience?”.
Choose your platform
My web developer used WordPress to design my blog. It is the most popular blogging software because it’s customizable and easy to use. There are many other platforms that you may use such as, Joomla and Square Space. It’s important to note that you do not need to pay a designer to design your blog. Many bloggers have designed their own blogs and they’ve gone on to create lucrative blogging careers. Let’s just say that I know my strengths, and web design is not one of them. Another option is to start off by designing it yourself, then you can hire a designer once your blog starts to gain traction.
Once you’ve decided what you’ll be blogging about and you’ve designed your beautiful and functional blog, it’s time to create content. You need to decide how often and when you’ll be uploading new content. If you intend to eventually monetize your blog, you need to post at least once a week. Anything less frequent than that is simply a waste of time. If you have full time job, consider dedicating one weekend a month to create all your content. That is called batching, if you do that then all you need to worry about is publishing and promoting your content.
I started blogging consistently from January 2018, I landed my first paying deal five months after that. There is no doubt in my mind that my first brand deal was a direct result of consistently uploading content on my blog and social media platforms. I blog once a week for now, but I am planning on starting to blog twice a week in the next couple of months. Don’t hold me to it though!
Social media platforms are the ideal for promoting your content once you’ve uploaded it on your blog. Sharing blog posts on your brand’s social channels can help draw in new readers to your blog and offer more value for your existing followers.
If you are planning on starting your own blog soon, I hope that I have helped you to gain a little bit of insight into the blogging world.
Wishing you all the best!
