Starting out on the gram is not easy. The algorithm is continuously changing, which can be frustrating.

Today I want to share some tips that will make it easier to grow your following. These tips have helped me tremendously, and hopefully, they’ll do the same for you. Here are a few tips on how to get your first 1000 Instagram followers.

Eye-catching photos

Instagram is a visual app, so your feed needs to be visually appealing, and that’s why the images you post determine your growth rate on the app. If you’re in this for the long haul, I recommend that you purchase a professional camera. You don’t have to blow your budget — an entry-level camera should suffice.

You can also find free images on apps such as Unsplash and Pexels. Using stock photos on Instagram is an excellent strategy for building a strong Instagram aesthetic and posting regularly.

Post Daily

Yep, said I daily. Post regularly so you can keep your audience engaged and interested. I recommend that you create your posts in advance and schedule them using an Instagram approved scheduling app. Avoid scrambling around for last-minute posts and ideas. Otherwise, you’ll publish something that is not a true reflection of the kind of content you can create.

Not only that, are you publishing content that is valuable for your audience? Is your content elevating your follower’s experience? You need to be intentional about the kind of content that you create. Your audience should either be inspired, educated or entertained.

Instagram is a social app, so get social. Instagram will reward you for being active on their app. Respond to DM’s and comments on your posts and, most importantly, comment on other people’s posts. If you engage with people, they will do the same. Find other influencers in your niche and engage with them regularly.

I know that growing your following can be time-consuming. However, you will need to put in the time if you want to see results. Commit to 15-30 minutes of engagement daily, preferably just after you post. Responding to comments immediately after posting will boost your engagement on that particular post, and consequently, the algorithm will ensure that more people see your content.

If you publish eye-catching images, post daily and engage on Instagram, you’ll be well on your way to reaching your first 1000 followers. Your following will grow steadily, and before you know it, you will eventually reach that magic number.
