Our days are shorter and nights are getting longer, which means winter is finally upon us. This is undoubtedly my least favourite time of the year. For me, it means less time spent outdoors and frequent visits to the local pharmacy.

As I’m writing this blog post, my nose is stuffy and my throat is killing me! I get the flu at least two or three times every winter. This year I plan to be more proactive by being intentional about how I keep myself and my family healthy.

Today I would like to share with you how I’m keeping my family healthy this winter.

Immunity Defence Supplements

As much as I genuinely do my my best to ensure my family is getting adequate nutrients, multivitamins ensure that things stay balanced. My entire family has just started using the GNC IMMUNEDEFENCE SUPPLEMENT RANGE. Firstly, Asante is loving her Kids Immune Defense Gummies, she referrers to them as her “sweeties.” Yes, they taste that good and mommy had to try them out first! Which means I don’t need to pin her down to take her Vitamins. Oh, and I was sold when I read they’re dairy free because Asante is allergic to dairy. The Immune Defense Gummies generously support natural resistance and provide immune support. Which basically means that she should be spending less time at home because she’s too sick to go school. I’ve been loading up on my Vitamin C because I cannot afford to get sick again this season. My goals won’t crush themselves! So I’ve been taking the GNC Vitamin C time release capsules and soft chews daily. The dynamic range also consists of Vitamin D supplements which are essential for Calcium absorption and strong bones.

More Sleep

I’ve read that lack of sleep compromises your immune system, so it’s more important than ever in Winter for the whole family to get enough sleep. I haven’t been getting my full 7-8 hours of sleep lately, but I’m working on it. As for the kids, I’m going to be more rigid about bed time. Shame poor kids, they don’t know what’s coming!

Balanced Diet

It goes without saying that our nutrition affects our health, whether bad or good. As much as I try to ensure we eat a balanced diet throughout the year, I will be gearing up this season by incorporating more greens in our meals. And fruits for snacking in-between meals.

Drinking lots of water

Water helps to flush out toxins and supports the immune system, so staying hydrated is critical in winter. I make sure my kids take water to school instead of juice throughout the year. The kids and I are loyal fans of sparkling water so I always have a few bottles tucked away in the pantry.

Keep Moving

I don’t know about you but I get really lazy to go to gym in winter, although I know that is when I’m supposed to work out the most. Staying active boosts your immune system and it helps to adequately reduce stress. My kids participate in a series of physical extra murals activities at school, so at least I don’t have to worry about them in this aspect. As for my hubby, hopefully he’ll get the hint when he reads this post!

It is clear that a healthy diet, physical activity and a good selection of high quality Vitamins are required to stay healthy this season. How are you staying healthy this winter?
