We all have a lot going on in our lives. Between family and work, it’s easy to let the things that make us feel good fall to the bottom of our priority list.
Yes, a trip to the spa may do the trick, but sometimes we don’t have the time or money to make that happen. That doesn’t necessarily mean that self-care should go out the window. There are daily practices that you can adopt that are not time-consuming and, most importantly, they are free. Here are 5 wellness practices you can do in 5 minutes or less.
Before you run away, I’m not talking about meditation! I know meditation is not for everyone, however, breathing deeply has been proven to help manage stress, and leave you feeling calm and relaxed.
Say affirmations or mantras
Positive thinking is an incredibly powerful tool. The quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your life. Saying positive things out loud and hearing yourself saying them is an effective way to program your brain to think positively. Positive affirmations or mantras are phrases that we repeat to ourselves to provide ourselves with encouragement and motivation. You can do this first thing in the morning or whenever you need to regroup.
Most of us have been working from home, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve been living in my leggings and sweat pants. And I ain’t complaining! However, when I do decide to dress up, I suddenly get a spring in my step. “When you look good, you feel good!” Excuse the cliché, but I’m afraid it’s true! Simple, yet so effective in boosting your energy.
It’s easy for us to get caught up in day-to-day activities, and we forget to have fun. When was the last time you rode a bike or kicked a ball? This is a great way to have a little bit of fun and possibly bond with your kids.
If you’ve been trying to get into the habit of drinking the recommended amount of water daily, there’s no better time to start than now. Fill up a bottle of water every morning and keep it with you. Add lemon or any of your favourite fruits to spice things up a little. Water does wonders for your skin and your overall health.
Although there are many, those are the 5 wellness practices you can do in 5 minutes or less. Remember, it’s the little things that we do throughout the day that determine the quality of our lives, and it is up to us to make sure that we prioritise ourselves.
