I love this time of year! We’re getting ready for the holidays and looking forward to the New Year. There’s something about new beginnings that gets me so excited. A chance to start afresh and do better than the previous year!

But instead of just focusing on resolutions and new goals, I find that doing simple things to prepare for the new year gets me off to a better start. In this blog post, I share 5 ways to prepare for the new year.

Celebrate accomplishments

It’s in our nature as human beings not to take time out to celebrate our accomplishments. We’re always on to the next thing. Make a list of all your achievements in the past year, no matter how small. Take your time to acknowledge all the hard work that you’ve put in throughout the year. While you’re at it, don’t forget to reward yourself. Rewards play a huge role in staying motivated.

Book outstanding appointments

This is a new one for me. This year I plan to book any appointments that I’ve been procrastinating on for the whole family, like dentists’ appointments and general checkups. I’m making it all happen before the end of the year. There’s nothing worse than having outstanding appointments hanging over you.

Rest

While holidays are meant to be a time of celebrating and relaxing, we often get exhausted with all the holidays’ activities. Make sure that you schedule some time to rest. For me, the focus this year is on creating memorable experiences with my family. Instead of filling up my schedule with parties and get-togethers, I want to prioritise experiences as much as possible.

Declutter

The benefits of decluttering are far more profound than just having a clean home, according to experts. Getting your home organised is a vital way to practice self-care, and it’s good for your mind. The state of our emotional and spiritual health often shows itself in our daily behaviour, especially when it comes to how our homes look. Whenever I declutter, I always feel as if the world’s weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

School preps

One final thing that I love to do before the new year is to make sure that my kids have everything they need for school, from stationery to uniform that needs to be replenished, and any labelling that needs to be done. There’s nothing worse than having to worry about that kind of stuff in January.

Instead of getting caught up in new year’s resolutions, use these 5 ways to prepare for the new year so that you can start the year on a good note. It’s essential that we make time to prepare for the New Year. How are you preparing for the New Year?
