According to Tony Robbins, success is 80% mindset and 20% mechanics. So basically, your success is determined by what goes on in your head. And some of those thoughts are just little white lies that are holding us back from achieving greatness.
I’m talking about the kind of lies that cripple and prevent us from reaching our fullest potential. Sadly, we are responsible for telling ourselves those lies. Not our families, friends or colleagues. YOU! You are standing in your own way because you don’t believe your dreams are worthy. It has taken me many years to finally realise that I’m in control of my own destiny and I needed to shift my mindset so I could start my journey towards living my best life. Today I would like to carefully unpack five lies that are holding you back.
I don’t have time
This used to be my favorite excuse whenever I felt like I had dropped the ball. Then my husband came along and taught me one of the most valuable lessons. There’s no such thing as not having time, it’s just a matter of how you intentionally choose to utilise it. He has a more technical explanation but I’ll keep it simple. You genuinely need to stop making excuses and start making time for things that are important to you. And if starting or growing your business is important enough, then you’ll surely find the time. Even if you have a 9-5 or children at home, it is possible. You are in total control of your time. And if you don’t make time, then you are not ready to passionately commit to your goals and dreams.
What if I fail
Yes, you might fail, there will be plenty of profound disappointments along the way. But what if you succeed? Fear of failure shouldn’t prevent you from pursuing your dreams. Look at it this way, every failure represents an essential step towards success. Besides, I would rather fail than live a life filled with regret.
I’m not good enough
Here’s the truth, there will always be someone who’s smarter, more attractive and more successful than you. But those people are not your competition, you are your own competition. I’ve discovered the direct benefits of not paying attention to what other people are doing. If you just put your head down and put in the work, everything will eventually fall into place.
I’m not ready
Start before you feel ready because you’re never going to be ready. Start where you are, you can fine-tune and perfect things along the way. Don’t be afraid to start small. Stop putting off that brilliant idea, you’ll kick yourself when somebody else puts it into action before you do.
The market is too saturated or somebody is already doing it
Yes, chances are somebody else is already doing what you want to do. But no one will ever do anything the way you would. You are unique and that’s what makes you special. You need to believe in your own magic, dance to your own tune, drink your own cool aid…You get where I’m going with this right? Just believe in yourself!
All these lies are driven by fear. We all have genuine fears, but it is time to shift your mindset and take action now. Take ownership of your life, the choices you’ve made have undoubtedly steered you to where you are right now. And you are the only person that has the power to make a change.
