Have you ever been stuck in a funk, and you know you need to snap out of it quickly, but you just can’t? That was me for the past two weeks. I’ve been feeling cranky and uninspired — I was spreading negativity to the people around me.

In my quest to get out of my funk, I’ve had to arm myself with some coping mechanisms to help me whenever I feel off. Here are 4 quick ways to get out of a funk.

Take care of yourself

Usually, when we’re not feeling so great, we tend to neglect ourselves, but that’s when we need to take care of ourselves the most. This is when you need to force yourself to do the things that you know make you feel good. For me, that includes getting enough sleep, staying active, yoga and meditation.

Unplug

The worst thing you can do for yourself when you’re not feeling so great is scrolling through Instagram, just to see how everyone’s life is better than yours — forgetting that Instagram is a highlight reel and not real life! So, log out of social media and dive into a book instead. A social media detox might just be the cure that you need.

Journal

Although we choose to blog or document our lives on social media, very few of us journal and write our experiences. Journaling has proven to relieve stress by allowing us to self-reflect. By writing down your feelings in a journal, you give yourself a chance to process your emotions instead of just suppressing them. It’s also an excellent way to keep your thoughts organised and improve your writing skills.

Talk to someone

Sometimes we need to talk through something instead of just trying to get over it. I know we tend to want to get through the funk, instead of figuring out the root of the problem. Identifying the problem will help shift your mindset and see the situation in a more positive light. So find a friend that you trust and is a good listener and talk it through.

We all get into a funk once in a while, and it’s essential to recognise that we’re not okay and pull out those mood boosters that work for us. You can use these 4 quick ways to get out of a funk. Do you have any other quick ways that I didn’t mention here? Let me know in the comments below.
