If you plan on launching a blog, then your first step is choosing a blogging platform. There are so many blogging platforms on the market. You could have a blog up and running within hours. Picking the best blogging platform will depend on how you want to use your blog. Not all blogging platforms are equal. Some are better than others.
If you plan to grow your brand and eventually monetise your blog, then Wix and WordPress are the best options. Do your research and choose what will work for your blogging needs. I can only speak about what I’ve experienced, so this blog post focuses on WordPress because that is the only blogging platform I’ve ever used. Here’s why you should use the number ONE blogging platform.
It’s fully customisable
WordPress made it so simple for me to set up my blog. From choosing the layout to the background and right down to the fonts. Here are some of the things you need to look out for when customising your blog:
Is easy to read – Some themes have fonts that are hard to read, but others allow you to customise your font. Please keep it simple, nothing fancy or scripted. You don’t want your readers to skim through your posts.
Is mobile responsive – Most new themes on WordPress are mobile responsive, but make sure by checking the theme on mobile.
Has a white background – The most successful blogs all have a white background. Coloured backgrounds make it difficult for users to read your content.
Once you’ve selected your theme and designed your blog, then it’s time to start creating.
It has tons of income generation potential
WordPress is the most popular blogging platform in the world. Top brands such as Facebook use it. It’s free, easy to use and you can add free or paid plugins to your website. When you’re ready to monetise your blog, you’re able to run ads without sharing the revenue with anyone. You can also set up tools such as Google Analytics for tracking — this will give you great insights into the products your readers are interested in.
Once you’re ready to sell products from your blog all you need to do is add an e-commerce plugin, and you’re good to go! You can use the platform to sell physical or digital products. I’ve been able to do this and it’s been a pleasant experience as everything is automated. It basically does part of the job for me. The platform also enables you to convert your blog into a membership site which is great for long-term income.
It is secure
I’ve never experienced a security threat since starting with WordPress. In fact, one of the top reasons why WordPress is considered the top blogging platform, not only by bloggers but by tech people, is how secure it is. WordPress continuously updates their backend and make sure to alert users if they suspect a possible hack. I’ve luckily been spared this.
A great way to safeguard your blog is to update your password regularly. You can do this once a month just for peace of mind. You can at least count on WordPress doing half the job for you.
